 Lidl recently opened up in Herne Bay which will serve the local Herne Bay and Whitstable communities. This greatly priced supermarket will provide much sought after jobs in Herne Bay and beyond. Canterbury and Thanet also have Lidl stores and these have proven to be popular as they are always busy. 

However, Herne Bay has an abundance of local smaller shops which now seem to be at threat because of these competitively priced supermarkets. Although newsagents do keep their prices low, it is impossible to compete with giants like Lidl and Aldi.
